What is Botox?

Botox is made up of botulinum toxin type A, a type of neurotoxin. While some may be alarmed to learn that it is made up of a toxin, Botox is made with a very low dose, and is completely safe.
Botox is categorized as a neurotoxin, along with Dysport and Xeomin. These products work by blocking nerve signals to facial muscles that contract when we make facial expressions. By blocking these nerve signals, the targeted muscles relax, and wrinkles and lines smooth over.

What Areas of the Face can Botox Treat?

Botox most commonly treats areas of the face where muscle activity can leave behind lines and wrinkles. These areas include the “eleven” lines, or the lines between the eyebrows, wrinkles around the eyes, including crow’s feet, creases on the forehead, platysma bands, and dimpling on the chin. Results from Botox can take about 5-7 days, so patients can look younger and feel more confident within a very short amount of time!

Are Botox Results Permanent?

Many patients are worried that they may not like the outcome of their Botox treatment. If this sounds like you- don’t worry. Botox results are temporary, usually lasting between three and six months.
